Favourite Music Videos

Here are two of my favourite music videos, they follow different themes (concept, artist/performance, dance) and each are done with a range of shots. I will use videos such as these for inspiration and an insight into the conventions of music videos.

Danger by Taemin (K-Pop)
This video is for a song by South Korean artist Taemin. The K-Pop genre got very big in recent years, and is typically all male or all female groups. The artists go through around 7 years of training (both singing and dancing) before they debut. Occasionally members of a group will also have a solo career if they are successful enough, such as Taemin. The videos usually focus around the artist/group singing directly to camera and almost always have a majority dance element. This dance routine style video has become very popular recently, especially among fans of K-Pop. It also uses fast cuts, flicking between different scenes usually only lasting up to 5 seconds.

American Beauty/American Psycho by Fall Out Boy (Pop Rock)
Although this music video only shows the artists right at the end, this music video is one of my favourites for a few reasons. First of all, the concept seen matches the lyrics and theme of the song very well, the contrast between the 'American Beauty' and the 'American Psycho(s)' is clear and interestingly shown. Also, when the ballerina is hitting the men, the camera angles and speed at which is was edited creates a more dramatic effect and so gives the video a more emotional feel. The lighting and theme is consistent throughout the video and it is easy to follow.
